Dahlonega’s Local Meadery

Enjoy the world’s oldest alcoholic beverage at Etowah Meadery in Dahlonega, Georgia, where award-winning mead is fermented with locally sourced honey and flavored with other local ingredients like blueberries and figs for a unique and refreshing beverage.

Mead is traditionally made up of honey that is diluted with water and fermented with yeast into an alcoholic beverage similar to wine but with a heavier, lingering mouthfeel from the honey. Mead can be dry, sweet, or tart, and it can be smooth like wine or carbonated like champagne. Alcohol content can range from 5 percent to more than 20 percent.

A Warm Welcome for Wild Leap Brew Co.

This month Leon Farmer and Company welcomes Wild Leap Brew Co. from LaGrange to the Athens and Northeast Georgia market, where their finely-crafted brews will be available on tap and in cans.

Wild Leap may be young, but it has grown in leaps (no pun intended) and bounds since opening in January 2017. Housed in a historic downtown building that was originally home to Westbrook Service & Tire Co., Wild Leap is the first brewery in the city and features a tasting room, large event space, and outdoor beer garden overlooking a downtown plaza. Founders Rob Goldstein and Anthony Rodriguez left successful careers in Atlanta to make a reality out of their dream to open a brewery.

2018 World Beer Cup

Every two years, a panel of more than 200 experienced beer professionals gather to taste and judge beer from nearly 100 style categories, awarding the best of the best in each category. This is the World Beer Cup.

The World Beer Cup, long considered the Olympics of Beer Competitions, was created in 1996 by the Brewers Association to “celebrate the art and science of brewing.” The Cup not only celebrates traditional and new styles of beer from around the world, but also educates consumers about the ever-evolving beer industry and encourages brewing innovation.
